About

Hi, I’m Kevin James Augustine. Born in DeRidder, Louisiana on January the 11th, 1986. In my youth I started to develop an inquisitive mind quite early. I have fond memories of discussing “which came first, the chicken or the egg” with my stepmother Gloria. We would often debate whether a falling tree still made a noise if no one was there to hear it. She taught me to think outside of the box, and instilled in me the value of science. As a teenager I found myself questioning much more. And so my passion for philosophy began.

This journey has met a great deal of forks. To better understand the questions I was posing, I veered into many subjects. Neuropsychology became a distinct fascination. To better understand ones mind must set up success, yes? What was I looking for? A clearer picture perhaps.

My life has ebbed and flowed. I have seen the ups, and been in what felt like the lowest of lows. The question I was asking was this; how do I find happiness in a world so big and full of variables? What good would it be to have any other questions answered without the contentment of ones own life as it is in the present moment? So here we are in the present. I feel good. I want to share what I have learned.

My Passion

Growing up in Southwest Louisiana, I was keen on my family’s Acadian heritage and roots. My father, Ronald, instilled in me a love for nature, food, and music. The Cajun people are notorious for their ability to have a good time, and it is vital to share in the festivities with your neighbors. My first true passions in life was that of cooking and playing music, so this is what I set out to do. I spent nearly two decades working in restaurants and cocktail bars here in New Orleans, and I still have a working band to this day. In this work I found great satisfaction, and would often refer to what I do as “being in the business of smiles.” Helping people enjoy their lives became the most important part of my existence.

There was a few problems with my mission however. Over time I was still struggling with the unanswered questions I’ve been posing since adolescence. Working as a bartender and musician also came with a few… side effects. I developed some dangerous addictions. My approach to life’s problems became a constant battle of drowning out the noise. I never took the time to learn to take care of my mental and physical health. It has been my greatest accomplishment to start putting myself first, so that I can truly be the person I need to be for myself, my family, my friends, and all the other people that cross my path. My passion hasn’t changed. It has shifted focus.

My Goals

I want to help people understand that they have the power to achieve any goal that they have. We as individuals face so many hurdles in life. My mother, Sharon, taught me to be accepting of others. It was with her and my stepfather, Ken, that I was exposed to different cultures, as they lived in more metropolitan areas. I can credit that exposure to seeing the way that others lived and struggled. Throughout my life I have always wanted to be able to give others an uplifting philosophy to help them with their day to day struggles. As I have learned over time, it is your responsibility to feel good about who you are at the core. With this accomplishment, you are free to be 100% effective in any endeavor you seek.

How, then, do we get started on seeing ourselves in a better light? How do we start to see within ourselves the full potential that we possess? It starts with changing our habits. Habits are much more than the few things we see in our routines that can be considered negative. It’s not just enough to know that we should quit smoking because it is a bad unhealthy habit. Unhealthy habits are deep rooted in every action we take throughout any given day. Your brain operates on a series of daily habits. This makes life easier for the brain. As neural pathways are created to take on the daily mundane tasks, the brain is free to explore other areas of interest. The problem here is that the brain doesn’t know which habits are good and which are bad. This is good news, because the brain won’t fight back at the new tasks we are about to present it. You can easily retrain your brain to make new neural pathways. Anything from how you see yourself, to how you manage time, to how you feel about exercise, to how you treat situations that give you anxiety, etc. etc., can be retrained by slowly introducing new habits to the brain.

This is the mission that I have for you. I want to show you how to change the habits that are holding you back from feeling a sense of contentment with yourself. Little by little we will chip away at the small things that are holding you back from the grand things in life that you deserve. In my ninety day habit change course you will learn new things about yourself that will astonish you. It’s fun, it’s easy, and it is effective! You pick an area of your life that could use some work, and together we will filter through the habits that have created this “problem.” Not only will we be able to accomplish lasting changes in this area, but we will have been working on habits that will in turn help you get over the hump of any other area in your life that needs some work. Give me a chance to show you this system. First round is on me!
